Hey everyone. I'm in the planning stage of a charity poker tournament in Ontario, Canada. Can anyone point me in the right direction for understanding the legal status of such events in Ontario? It's a closed, invitation only event on private property. Thanks for any help.
AGCO. Call them. alcohol and gaming corporation of ontario.
I can give you a quick run down. You will have a lot of trouble with this.
you need to be a legit charity and all money must be donated. You cannot give cash as prizes, prizes cannot be bought from any of the buy in money. If you get prizes donated or sponsored, thats ok.
I also dont even think you can charge people to play. Check www.allinforthecure.ca and see what they say. They run poker tourneys for charity.
